COMPANY'S HISTORY
The beginnings of wooden industry LIKO VRHNIKA d.d. reach into the 19th century. On the outskirts of
the Ljubljana swamp, more exactly in Borovnica and the surrounding small villages, sawing had already
been developed then.
In 1872 Fran Kotnik, the owner of a large estate from Verd, obtained from the then Austro-Hungarian
authorities a permit for manufacturing parquet. Already in 1874 the factory obtained first European
acknowledgements for high quality parquet, furniture and other wooden products.
Throughout the years the company had walked a long way of technological and commercial changes, and
after the World War II it built new factory premises and became one of the leading wood processing
companies.
Export oriented company began conquering the markers of the North America and Western Europe as well as
other markets. The total company turnover grew together with the expansion of its production program
and adaptation to the changes on markets.
LIKO VRHNIKA d.d. TODAY
Today the plants in Borovnica and Verd, united in a joint venture company LIKO VRHNIKA d.d., present an
important economic operator in the Slovenian territory as well as in the municipalities of Vrhnika and
Borovnica themselves. Total 570 employees create EUR 22 million revenues per year. We have set our
vision from tradition and knowledge:

LIKO VRHNIKA d.d. has been a predominant exporter for many years. Its main markets are the USA,
England, Canada, states in the European Union, Croatia and Bosnia, and we are present also elsewhere.
The Slovenian market is important for LIKO VRHNIKA d.d., especially for the sale of interior and front
doors.
